I just read Hot Sardines’ singer Miz Elizabeth‘s (*) tweet and I’m now flying through New York streets instead of walking…
This week is going to be WONDERFUL!
I’m ready for SantaCon (Saturday, December 15th), the annual mass gathering of people dressed as Santa Claus and the next day, Sunday 16th, I’ll ride through Manhattan on board the special Nostalgia Train … This time it’s going to be VERY SPECIAL!
My favorite swing band – which I follow everywhere since I heard them playing last summer (they probably think I’m a stalker, ahahah!) – will play Hot Jazz on the old vintage cars from the ’30s …!
I won’t miss this opportunity to enjoy their music and this time I want to dress up too. Does anyone want to share this wonderful and unforgettable experience with me???
They will play about 1p on the 2nd Ave uptown M platform, then they will be on the train at 2:30 SHARP.
(*) “The Wall Street Journal calls the Hot Sardines’ sound “high-energy traditional jazz with a Parisian accent.” The collective – founded by vocalist “Miz” Elizabeth Bougerol and pianist Evan “Bibs” Palazzo – makes music evoking wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around: hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. (Literally – the band includes a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section).
In just under three years, the Hot Sardines went from their first gig – at a cozy coffeeshop on the last Q train stop in Queens – to headlining before a crowd 6000 strong at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing, opening for the Bad Plus and French gypsy-jazz artist Zaz, and gracing events at the Superbowl and Universal Studios’ 100th Anniversary bash. Fall 2012 sees them making their European debut (starting with the Ile de France Festival) and working on a follow-up to their 2011 debut, Shanghai’d”
